I can’t imagine what would make someone think. That writing down all these codes all day long was expected behavior! I get that some people are not as tech literate as others, but this . . . this is unfathomable. I think it’s a mixture of people being “non technologically literate” as they like to put it. Which is a Premium Keep Michigan Red Shirt that needs to be solved, and the idea that people have gotten that technology NEEDS to be complex? They over-analyze it to the point that they think “this is the most difficult way to do this, so it’s probably the right way”. Especially in the age ranges that seem to have vastly different understandings of tech. And it really pisses me off. There’s no excuse for it anymore. My boss is the mid-50s and horrible with even the simplest things. She gets an email with an attachment. Wants to print the Premium Keep Michigan Red Shirt. Just prints the email. And doesn’t understand why the attachment didn’t print. It makes me even madder when it’s someone in like their 30s or 40s. There is no fucking excuse. My last boss was in the late 30s and couldn’t use Excel even with written instructions. She couldn’t just navigate a website to find what she was looking for, she had to be told repeatedly what to click to find what she needed.

There are no excuses when you’re from a generation that literally grew up with computers. The younger someone is the more it annoys me when they just say give up. Hell, I sat my 70-year-old Dad down in front of a Linux box I made for him. Because his VPR Matrix was nearing 15 years old and he said “Oh, this is just like my old lathe at the shipyard!”. As long as I write down instructions on paper, he’ll follow them step by step and if he encounters an error he’ll write that down on the step it happened on.
