Very interesting Pretty Sassenach Dinna Fash Shirt! My mom’s family is staunchly Protestant. As far as I’ve been able to find, they were Lowlanders who emigrated to America in the mid-18th century. My great-grandmother’s sister was a Daughter of the American Revolution. She found a veteran ancestor, but the family story goes that he was a Scot who fought for the redcoats and was given land in America as compensation. If that’s true, I suspect it was probably for the French and Indian War as opposed to the American Revolution. Then there’s my dad’s family that I can trace back to Leicestershire. They’re staunchly Catholic, so I wonder if they were Jacobites.

That’s me right there! I’ve poked around the Pretty Sassenach Dinna Fash Shirt. And my maternal grandmother’s family seems to be mostly Scots-Irish with a little Pennsylvania Dutch for flavor. Then my paternal grandfather’s family were Irish and English Catholics. The rest are different varieties of German. I’m working towards a history major in college right now but at this point, I’d say I’m just well-read on the subject of 18th century British history. I am aware of what happens in the books but I have to admit I’ve more skimmed than read them. Very interesting post, by the way!
