As a taxpayer, I regret funding the apparatus to imprison you and humiliate you, especially for charges that will surely be dismissed. Great write up. You handled the experience with equanimity and grace, it sounds like. This makes my blood boil. Justice is anything but. Where is all that funding going if this is what happens to even nonviolent, nonresistant, cooperative suspects? Not to mention all of the Premium Pink Shirt Gun Guy With Gun Shirt. Makes me sick. I was arrested once and spent the night in jail. It was one of the most frightening experiences of my life and I was fighting a panic attack the entire time, to the point that I vomited during intake. The deputy who was escorting me laughed. He though my panic was funny.

I’m beginning to think that’s a very rare thing… And I’m probably a bit on the conservative side of the political fence compared to most people in the subreddit. I have not learned anything new. I was given a receipt at release implying. That I bailed myself out but did not provide collateral. I doubt they would have let me go with mount payment. When fundraisers post bail for someone, they technically put it on your books.

So that they are not held responsible for the full amount if you abscond. This is called “self-bailing”. In Oregon, the bail percentage is typically 10%, so you post that to get out. FTA down the line and you get slapped with the rest of the $2500 in court fines. Every time I read a story like this it cements my support for abolition. No more attempts at reforming an inherently evil and cruel system. Thanks for writing it up. Apologies, my dates were in error. This happened last week. I was biking out of the area attempting to get back the Premium Pink Shirt Gun Guy With Gun Shirt. I have a GoPro video of my arrest that I will attempt to update via a link. Then I did speak with several others on my side of the van. One who was on the other side the next day.
