I bought these for my husband to wear as work t-shirts (he is a painting contractor). They are what we expected them to be, good, serviceable long sleeved work t-shirts. I used to be able to easily find shirts like this at stores such as Walgreen’s or CVS. Now, on the rare occasion I can find them at one of these stores they are a blend of polyester and cotton – something my husband says is too uncomfortable for him to wear as a work t-shirt. Though these cost a little more to buy on-line, I’m happy I can at least find somewhere to buy them.

I bought three t-shirts to compare: Fruit Of The Loom 5.6 oz Heavy Cotton Long Sleeve T-Shirt 4930, Hanes Adult Tagless Long Sleeve Tee and the Gildan Men’s G240 Ultra Cotton Long Sleeve T-Shirt. Here’s what I found:
So that you can judge how the fit I describe will translate to you, I am 6’1″, weigh 190lbs, and I wear a 35″ dress-shirt sleeve. I bought the “large” size in all three shirts.
I like all three of the shirts for quality and comfort, with small difference in each that may make a difference for you.
Fruit of the Loom – I bought black, and it’s definitely black. The fabric is the heaviest (thick but also a little stiff) of all three shirts. It fits like an Under Armour shirt, which is to say athletic — the sleeves are tight and it’s fitted in the chest. The sleeves are long enough to reach my wrists without pulling up.
Hanes Adult Tagless Long Sleeve Tee (this shirt) – the black is a little on the Navy Blue side. The fabric is lighter, but not thin, and soft. There is a little extra room through the body and sleeves; it feels fitted, but not tight. The sleeves are long enough to reach my wrists without pulling up.
Gildan Men’s G240 Ultra Cotton Long Sleeve T-Shirt – I bought “Heather” and was surprised that it was slightly blue; I was expecting grey. The fabric is similar to the Hanes — light and soft. There is a little extra fabric around the middle, but it’s not a tent. The sleeves are long enough to reach my wrists without pulling up. I hesitated buying this unfamiliar brand until I realized that a shirt I’ve been wearing for about 6 years was a Gildan. It’s held up very well, so I tried this one.

The fit is snug on me, but large for one manufacturer isn’t always the same as another. Also, I have previously purchased the extra large in the three button down front style from Hanes that was a little baggy on me. Especially if you want to wear it under another shirt. Maybe it’s apples and oranges regarding fit, so I ordered the larger size XL in the crew neck to see how that fits. I am 5’ 11” and 190 pounds. All that aside, the quality is very good at a fair price and I am keeping them all.

I’m usually hesitant to order clothing online because not all of them fits the right way even if it’s your size, but I still wanted to give this shirt a try. After it finally arrived, I washed it, as I do with all clothes I buy, and wore it for a day. For me, the shirt fit very well and seems very sturdy, so I don’t think it will get rips anytime soon. I wore it as an undershirt for a short-sleeve shirt to wear over it, and it was perfect for that. Probably my only concern was the sleeve cuffs, they were a little bit tighter than I thought they’d be. However, this wasn’t a big issue, the tightness wasn’t too much that would cause too much discomfort. Overall, I am satisfied with this shirt and will continue to wear it whenever I need it.

It’s difficult to find 100% cotton clothing any more, especially in stores. This long-sleeve t-shirt is perfect. I use it as a base layer under a polo shirt. It’s a little tight to put on for me, compared with similar items I’ve purchased in the past, but once it’s on the fit is perfect. I purchased a Medium, and it fits me perfectly. I’m a 5’10” male, athletic build, 175 lb. If I was purchasing this to wear alone, I would go with a Large. The material is thick enough to wear it alone. I hope this review has been helpful.

I ordered the large and after washing it, it shrunk a bit and felt a little tight on me. I am 5’7 and 170 and usually large long sleeve shirts fit me well but this one was an exception. It was a little stiff after the first wash but i wore it and by the end of the day, the shirt had conformed to me and softened up just a bit. It’s not overly thick but kept me warm. Happy with the shirt but you gotta give it a chance and a little tlc

Too small. I bought this t-shirt because I like to wear long sleeve shirts in colder weather. I am a 5’9″ 160 pound female. I prefer to wear men’s long sleeve shirts as the fit is longer in the arms than women’s shirts and not as tight around the shoulders and chest area. I liked the weight and the color of the shirt but it was too tight on me. Men’s mediums usually fit just right on me, not too loose, not to tight. This was just too tight to be comfortable in and no way that I could have washed and dried it without ever getting into it again. Gave it to my daughter for a night shirt. I reordered the shirt in a different color in large. Will do a review on that shirt when it comes in.
Update: I bought the same shirt is a large and is perfect. Fits well through the shoulder and chest area and the sleeves are a bit long, but like my shirts that way. Will be ordering more!

Bought this for my wife because she’s always had that sassy little attitude and now she wears it all the time. I buy these for summer – reduce skin exposure when outside gardening and such. I buy them for winter when I want to layer-up. They are excellent fit – XL for me – and they are really XL, not L or XXL! They look good enough for wear under an unbuttoned shirt or alone.
No tag – I hate those things scratching the back of the neck. They are also long enough that when tucked in – they stay tucked.
For summer, they wick the sweat well and don’t make me overheat like some non cotton shirt may.. The sleeves also have good elasticity so when I push them up, they stay up and don’t then sag and drag in the future. I don’t like baggy, saggy, sleeves either and these shirts keep doing the job there.
Another problem with some long sleeve tees is the arms are too tight and after a while wearing they harass the hair on the arms. Not a big thing to suffer, but it is a reason to take it off after a while. These shirts are good fit on the forearms and don’t fight too tight.
They clean up well enough after gardening or dropping some bbq sauce or whatever down the front as well. Little extra shot of liquid soap on a spot and the cotton seems to release any oils or other stuff I manage to acquire.
Summary, they work all seasons, fit well, last and wear well over time, looking pretty good despite hard wear. I will purchase some more again in year or two.

Had the price stayed the same as what it was when I first purchased them, I would be giving them a five-star rating. This T-shirt is an excellent buy at the price I paid which was $10.99 each. I have noticed that they’ve gone up since then to $12.99. At the higher price, the best I can categorize it would be, reasonably priced. I started buying these T-shirts when Carhart went over the top with their prices. The quality and weight of the cotton material is very good and based on what I’m seeing so far, I believe the dye that they use is of a greater quality than even Carhart. I’m getting less wash fade.
One word of caution however, they are very undersized. I wear an extra-large Carhart long-sleeve T-shirt, and it is actually a little big on me. These Red Tag Haynes are a little snug on me at 2X large. By grabbing them at the seams and giving them a little pull I can stretch them out the fraction of the size necessary to fit me without being clinging.
