Personally, Perfect Owl I Am A Book Nerd Of Course I’m On The Nice List Christmas Shirt I would never even begin to explain to someone that their gift was unusable. I don’t really know what your age has anything to do with it. I wouldn’t try to explain to them because that’s not what you do out of courtesy. I appreciate the gesture a lot obviously, but people will point it out sometimes and ask why aren’t you using it. Plus it probably feels bad on their end that you aren’t using it. I’m sure you don’t know what my age has to do with it, except in the context of receiving gifts. It might stand to reason someone with more years would have more opportunity to have received more gifts; that was my general perspective.

You say “you wouldn’t try Perfect Owl I Am A Book Nerd Of Course I’m On The Nice List Christmas Shirts to explain to them…” in your second comment, but the comment I was referencing, or your OP, was “I’d rather have gift cards than having to explain..,” or in other words, it’s a bit inferred that you would do the latter if you the former were the case, no? Apologies, I meant to correct myself in my original comment when I said “I wouldn’t try to explain to them”. I think if the first thing that comes out of your mouth is “this isn’t what I wanted” that’s rude. We are probably are in agreement with that. But what would you say when someone says.
