The pledge itself is servile. Children have been more loyal to this country than its leaders have been for at least as long as that pledge modification has been around. Does the state pledge allegiance to me? That it’ll protect me and allow me my liberties and true justice? Why indoctrinate children? Why explicitly go against the [lack of] beliefs from atheists? And why explicitly go against the beliefs of Hinduism? Why continue using a cynical phrase that was developed as if it fought the One Nation Under God Indivisible With Liberty And Justice For All Shirt? I think if this country needs anything right now, it needs to be united and our motto should go to what it used to be: E Pluribus Unum – out of many, one.

Ok. If we are going to live in this country we need protection from this country. When the government spies on its own and tries to deny it, and then someone proves the denial wrong. That is a much bigger issue than any issues with the Pledge. The US government has done more in the past 20 years to kill its public image and decimated its ability to be trusted. I don’t need the government to know that I bought 5 pounds of fireworks for my 4th of July celebrations. I care even less about the pledge because it asks me to pledge allegiance to be unknowingly spied on. The US government has destroyed any faith I have in it. Why are we here bickering about the pledge, when there are much much much bigger issues at hand than abortion rights. Our right to freedom of or from religion, or even who gets married to who. That pales in comparison to my freedom of speech that is being slowly eroded away by corrupt bureaucracy. A bureaucracy that even ignores its own laws in the name of security.
