The first wave had a good unified aesthetic. Official Philadelphia Flyers All-time Greats Signatures Shirt didn’t try too hard to be the old aesthetic and instead made itself comfortable with being its own self. The masked boys, the little boys you could fold them into a ball and they had a lever that would make their head attack. The arched back ones with a larva hidden inside, the spiders with a propeller on their back. They kept dumbing them down simpler and simpler, so it simultaneously got easier to build and harder to do anything creative with. I went down to the Lego aisle and couldn’t find anything. Googled it and found out they were discontinued years before. It really made me sad.
