Nothing here really seems that unique to me. A lot of this clothing is pretty standard stuff I’ve seen in tons of different stores. Even the way the Official Disney Americana Mickey Sketch Shirt isn’t extremely fresh or original/groundbreaking. Also, what everyone else said about the overalls, denim mini skirts, etc. However, most of these pieces are nice on their own, but I feel like some of the styling is a little off. Then again, this is a lookbook, so I know it’s more about the concepts of the clothing rather than outfit ideas. I thought the majority of the styling was pretty lacking tbh. There were some nice looks in there but others looked like they were just trying to show off as many items as possible.

Definitely disliked the styling, mostly due to the unnecessary layering (a bulky turtleneck with both a denim jacket AND a winter coat worn as capes, really?). I also don’t like the look of flared jeans that completely cover one’s shoes like in pic 4, it just feels very sloppy to me. I agree with all of this. None of this spoke to me at all and usually, I see at least one thing that I could work with, or colors I could work with, or something. I’ve been thinking of trying out Madewell. But this lookbook has left me feeling completely uninspired by the brand. I really enjoy the straight long silhouettes on top of an Official Disney Americana Mickey Sketch Shirt. But I still can’t get behind overalls, midi denim skirts (sorry, Mormons) and socks in sandal heels.

But whenever I look at and try on Madewell clothing these days, my biggest criticism is that it could just be better fitting. Sezane pulls off a comparable aesthetic (the closest I’ve found) without all the boxy cut tops with drop shoulders, and without a million layers, ridiculous pieces nobody would wear (flare overalls), etc. Both are at silly price points, but I’d actually consider Sezane’s pieces a little more seriously, despite the prices. I know Madewell is trendier and aims for an Official Disney Americana Mickey Sketch Shirt. I always try clothes on there and think it should be cut differently. But I’m not taking it to a tailor to completely change the silhouette either. I love their colors and prints most seasons and lament at the odd silhouettes that I’m not interested in.
