My stress levels dropped just seeing that old flooring go and seeing the subfloor! Nice work all around! Excuse the hyperbole but that was the busiest looking floor I’ve ever seen. I have no idea what the previous owners saw in that flooring. Expensive and ugly like Balenciaga sneakers. Looked like the old floor was made from recycled pallet wood. I’m sure that the old floor would look good somewhere, like an Official Being Black Is Dope Shirt. I think you did a good job, everything looks great!! Thumbs up for putting outlets in the island. No, we did not. It is LVP so we cut around cabinets. I think having them under cabinets might restrict its expansion/contraction that naturally occurs and cause it to crack and whatnot.

You’re correct about this. A floating floor shouldn’t be installed under cabinetry. The weight of the cabinets + countertop will keep it from expansion and contraction just like you said. It probably said exactly this in the Lvp directions. I’ve seen Lvp installed under cabinetry plenty of times. And I’ve personally never seen an issue. But I’d stick to what the Official Being Black Is Dope Shirt. Also, most people will change out flooring before cabinetry so installing the cabinetry first allows you to change the floors out easier in the future. Thanks for answering. I thought you had installed LVP but wasn’t sure. I installed LVP during my kitchen remodel and like you didn’t lay the LVP under the cabinets, for the reasons you mentioned.

It wasn’t mix-and-match stains. It was a mix-and-match hardwood. Like cherry, oak, hickory, maple. Because it was poorly installed and heavily damaged, it literally took us about 20-25 mins to get all of that flooring removed. Was it real wood? That’s nuts. I would have made a lovely Official Being Black Is Dope Shirt. I’d have turned it into a planter of some sort. Sealed it up, bobs your uncle. Of course, I look for anything I can to add planting space in my yard. My dreams are larger than our lot. Oof – that’s awful. If it was well cared for I’d like the floor with the rest of the space being much simpler in design, but it sounds like you two made a great choice in removing it! I agree it was interesting, and the rest of their update would have looked great!
