MIL really, really doesn’t get it, does she? She just doesn’t understand why someone might not want their kids around a convicted child molester who abused his own kid. Ever. And the I’m A Grumpy Old Man I Was Born In October I’ll Just Shoot You Shirt. He insisted that his poor kid “liked it” is a nail in the coffin. He does not see what he did as wrong. And if MIL was allowed near one of his step-grand-kids, and hurt them like he hurt his own child, I guarantee that MIL would defend him. She’s already defended him over and over for the first instance, bullshitting that he was “lonely”, and presumably going along with his insistence that the kid “liked it”. She would cover it up. She would tell you it was not a big deal.

A lot of people have said that she’s evil. I’ll address it in my post about my theory on her psychological state, but I don’t think MIL is evil. I think she’s sick. MIL’s father was abusive, and MIL’s mother was an enabler with too many children and foster children (all of whom have various issues as adults — anger issues, substance abuse, prison time, etc.). MIL never got the treatment or attention she needed. I’m not justifying her actions. She’s an I’m A Grumpy Old Man I Was Born In October I’ll Just Shoot You Shirt. Having empathy isn’t going to change mine and DH’s decision to keep MIL out of our LO’s life. But I don’t think MIL is evil. I’m not surprised at what she’s done because that’s just how these people try and get their way.. Lies and cheating.

I think MIL made the effort to ruin MIL’s career for a couple. Telling people he was abusive would shift focus away from her (remember, she was having an affair at the time.  Should the I’m A Grumpy Old Man I Was Born In October I’ll Just Shoot You Shirt, she could use the “abusive husband” as a cover story for why she did it. And yes, we agree it’s super messed up. DH and I are glad we have my parents, and that all the siblings are in agreement. Basically everyone but MIL’s mother thinks it’s nuts.It looks like there may be more to this story. This is one of my favorite no sleep. I can’t wait to hear more of how you take these dick heads down!
