Being back in the office is not about even money, it’s just too difficult for managers to imagine not having the employees under their thumb at all times. I’m not opposing your point on remote work being acceptable, but this example doesn’t exactly support that argument. Professors taught over the phone during a pandemic once, and then when it was over returned to the classroom. Why would they do that if teaching over the phone was “just the same”?

There’s a reason the standard classroom has endured. When it could have been replaced with phone, radio, television, the internet, virtually any form of media or telecommunication.
