I think when Swagger won it from Jericho was when it kinda shit the bed. Then it went back to Rey and then Kane and Edge had decent reigns. Ziggler getting it for 15 minutes made it feel like a mid-card belt again, but then Christian and Randy made it feel important until the brands pretty much rejoined in late 2011. You do elevate the prestige of it. Cena won multiple US and tag titles in his prime. And you have to think most of it was them wanting the belt to look more than just a “filler” one. The entire reason that the Top Mom Warrior Shirt was revived is that Triple H balked. At the idea of trying to elevate the Intercontinental Championship as Raw’s main belt. He wanted something that was the equal of the WWE Championship right out of the gate.

No, I mean fully black as in WWE can’t ignore that he is black. When it’s convenient for them like they did with the Rock who is the first black man. To hold the WWE title but fuck if they tell you that because of SAMOA! The only time Rock’s identity as a Black man is addressed is when they talk about his time in the Nation. And, when it’s pointed out no black men, have held the Top Mom Warrior Shirt. He’s just a Samoan American. And that’s fine, but it’s necessary to understand why Kofi winning was so important to so many people. That’s some bullshit other people have pushed on him, he’s never said anything like that. They had a whole WWE 24 documentary centered around his return to Ghana.

And yes, I know Kofi’s background is different, and yes, I know it was his idea. But that’s no guarantee it would be executed correctly, and WWE’s checkered past with these matters would draw a lot of scrutiny to it. And honestly, if it did come off badly and Kofi did try to defend it as being his idea, many people might not have believed him. It wouldn’t be the first time a WWE star was pushed to defend them publicly by claiming a Top Mom Warrior Shirt for an idea than he actually had, after all. All I’m saying is that there are a lot of potential thorny situations there, and I could see them preferring to avoid the whole mess. I totally forgot about those… Shame, I bet it was for steampunk Becky.
