We’ve made huge improvements to the emulation of hundreds of systems in the last decade and a half. Maybe you were joking, but for the average user, it’s not that far off the mark. I’m using a pretty old version of MAME myself with an Official Diamond Peace Love Bus Driver Shirt. I totally appreciate what the people working on it are doing and it amazes me how much is going on with the project, but for a guy who just fires up MAME occasionally to play a few old games, I’d say that the changes have no effect at all. I dunno, having the bosses working and the levels in the right order in Operation Wolf was something I’d personally wanted for the entire lifetime of the project before it happened last year.

Virtua Fighter working without those weird graphical glitches on the ground was a big update for me, and that was fixed just a month ago. I can see why someone would use an older version to run Mortal Kombat games on a toaster or something. But other than that there is no reason to keep such old builds. And even if you don’t like all the Official Diamond Peace Love Bus Driver Shirt. There are always different MAME builds available that removes all that. One that’s simply called “Arcade” is pretty good. I mostly only want to play 80’s and 90’s arcade games, and I have a Mac. And my mac is from 2009. Old version forever. I’m afraid of ever upgrading because I’m afraid my paradise of games won’t work anymore.

Also, this is exactly what MAME is about, emulating things that nobody else cares to emulate and that would likely be lost if we weren’t doing them. It’s very easy to bring in massive amounts of monthly Patreon income if you rely on allowing piracy of current content. Or have a snazzy PR team promoting the hell out of ‘user pleasing’ features rather than real emulation work. But to us, this kind of thing is far more important so while it’s very rare that I’ll ask for anything the Official Diamond Peace Love Bus Driver Shirt. And contributed greatly to a lot of the things you see supported in the current release. The flow of the project doesn’t really suit it tho. Sure, there’s an update every month, but there’s no guarantee anything in it will be of interest to those making pledges.
