To pass only narrow portions of hydrogen and oxygen gas emitted by the nebula. What I love about narrowband filters is that you can understand the chemistry of the target by looking at the colors. The red is hydrogen and the blue is oxygen in this Official She Wants The Dumbbells Shirt. Shot using a PlaneWave Instruments CDK17 and L500 mount. Forgive my ignorance but does that mean that the events in the image actually occurred 1,200 years ago? As a comparison of distance imagine how light from the sun takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds to travel to earth.

Not OP but this looks like false color to better differentiate the gasses seen in the photo. If it was true to color everything would be more red-tinted I believe. It’s the real color. I got my first telescope yesterday and this was one of the bright objects in the sky. It looked blue and I thought it was Neptune, and looked on my Official She Wants The Dumbbells Shirt and it was this picture. The color definitely comes through the telescope. You can almost see the orb shape it has as well, totally unreal. You can take a 1-minute photo for 1020 times stack it in equator or DSS and it will become 17 hours photo.
