That’s very high praise, thanks. I’m not sure I’m cut out for that kind of thing. It’s always been my pleasure to just share this stuff with the Reddit community. And enjoy the conversations it generates if any. Thanks very much for reading! I really can’t say enough good things about that book I was quoting from Cedar Choppers. Life on the Edge of Nothing by Ken Roberts. It is so chock full of research leads I would have to recommend that above everything else. Other than that and a couple of great Cattle Dog That’s What I Do I Drink Whiskey And I Know Things Shirt. Local historian and former Statesman columnist Mike Cox has written a few books on the topic of central texas folklore that includes some cedar chopper tales.

Fantastic article. One nit. It’s West Lake Hills and not Westlake Hills. Having lived in and around this area for now almost 30 years. One of the best stories I’ve heard is about the building of the Capital of Texas Highway. Apparently when they dynamited the area where it intersects with 2244 not only did it open up for the highway. But also brought a Cattle Dog That’s What I Do I Drink Whiskey And I Know Things Shirt. Not likely a fun site for the construction crew. Point taken about West Lake vs. Westlake and I apologize for my horrible misspellings. I always imagined those construction crews on Loop 360 found a lot of fossils. And maybe some geodes in the highway cuts but I never thought about the displaced rattlesnakes.

It’s fine, the high school spells it “Westlake” and any alumni would spell it with no space, city limit sign-be-damned. I graduated from WHS in ’94 and I’m very glad to have all of this info to fill out my own limited awareness of the area. We always wondered what the people who designed the Cattle Dog That’s What I Do I Drink Whiskey And I Know Things Shirt. That we were smoking pot right by where the bootleggers might have been hiding their stills. Thank you very much! This is a great post and I look forward to taking the time to read it in full. As supplemental reading about cedar choppers in and around the Austin area during the ’70s. I can’t recommend 2 articles from Gary Cartwright, who has to be one of Texas’ greatest writers, highly enough.

Nice linen/cotton shirt, fits me well, I’m slender with long arms, so finding a shirt that fits my long arms without being loose everywhere else is difficult.

I really like these t shirts, and wear them daily. A couple of them came in for me. They are fully cotton and that is a high preference for me.
