I believe /u/mother said it best, but Necromancy is underpowered in this game, both in terms of the summons and the lack of actual save-or-die spells. For whatever reason, Finger of Death and Wail of the Banshee aren’t save-or-be-killed spells in Kingmaker. They’re actually save-or-take-damage spells like Disintegrate. The only true save-or-die spells in the Dragonfly Firework American Flag Independence Day Shirt. And I almost never use summons in general. Their duration is pitiful and a lot of the big bosses have instant AOE Dismissal/Dispel spells to clear them out in a single round. I mean Wail of the Banshee might as well be saved or die considering it deals 10 times your caster level in damage.

As for summons, I use them a lot. Elemental Swarm is the best spell in the game. Summon Nature’s Ally VIII and IX are amazing, summoning a Nereid and Hamadryad respectively. Creeping Doom trivializes so many encounters it’s not even funny. There are only a handful of bosses that will actually use a Dragonfly Firework American Flag Independence Day Shirt. But even then, a round spent dismissing your summons is around where the boss isn’t bashing your face in. And if you spread them out the boss can end up needing to use multiple Dismissal effects. Of course, these aren’t Necromancy summons. Necromancy only has two summons anyway – Animate Dead, which I used a lot in a solo run.
