Depending on the utility and contracts there are ways to make technology more than 2x and even get paid while you’re off. How much do you have to study to do this job? It seems to be a fun job and the money is great. It usually takes a long apprenticeship (4 yrs) to get a journeyman card. You have to get a certain amount of hours before you get to the high line. And have the opportunity to look for helicopter work. I work in the power line industry in Canada. Lots of the linemen I know make roughly 150-250k/year, depending on expertise and amount of OT worked.
